Urban Immersion

The Urban Immersion program is designed to offer groups a chance to learn, listen, and serve alongside one another in the heart of the quintessential urban environment, New York City. The goal is not only to offer volunteer opportunities, but also to challenge participants to ask difficult questions and explore together how our faith fits into this experience.

(Due to agency requirements, we request that participants be 16 years or older)

Included in the cost of your trip:

  • Dorm Style housing in Midtown Manhattan (including beds, showers, and kitchen usage)
  • Daily Continental Breakfast
  • Coordination of Ministry Opportunities
  • Coordination of Urban Immersion Experiences
  • A complete and personalized schedule from 9am - 6pm
  • Debriefing with an urban theologian/minister
  • Evening Activity Suggestions
  • Unlimited Metro Card
  • Background Checks


1 Week = $4000 for groups of 15 or less, $300 for each additional participant

(other length trips can be negotiated)


1. 10% to reserve your week

This initial deposit can come at any time and will be non-refundable under most circumstances. If you cancel, and we’re able to book someone else in the week you’ve reserved we’ll be glad to refund in full.  

2. 40% due 3 months prior to your trip

All teams must provide a credit card to be kept on file upon arrival when keys are checked out.  If keys are lost, there will be a $25 charge per set of keys lost upon your departure.  If keys are returned, your credit card will not be charged.  

Check In Fee

Groups are encouraged to check in during office hours if possible (Monday-Thursday 9:00am-5:30pm, Friday 10:00am-2:30pm).  If you need to check in outside those hours, there will be a $25 check in fee.

Virtual Urban Immersion

When you aren't able to come work alongside us in NYC, bring the Urban Immersion experience to your hometown!

Designed for small groups (ages 12 and up), Metro's virtual Urban Immersion curriculum takes a look into six aspects of our ministry in New York City: Homelessness, Food Justice, Youth & Education, Gentrification, Interfaith Work, and Arts & Theater. Each of the six sessions includes a video introduction by one of our local ministers and practitioners, group activities, a community connection, Bible study, questions for reflection and conversation, and a final challenge for engaging this work in your own city.
